Police from Holden Hill and Western Adelaide Local Service Areas have noticed a recent spike in reports of thefts from parked cars

Police from Holden Hill and Western Adelaide Local Service Areas have noticed a recent spike in reports of thefts from parked cars. Also of concern, about half of the cars weren’t locked at the time.

Police ask anyone who has recently been a victim of theft of property from their vehicle to report it. Each report helps build a picture of the activity of thieves and police can direct attention to those areas.

To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of theft, there are safety tips to consider EVERY TIME you park your car:

– Lock your vehicle doors and close windows
– Install an alarm or immobiliser and activate it
– Park off the road and, if possible, in a locked garage
– At night, if parking on the street, park in a well-lit area
– Avoid placing bags and wallets on the passenger seat where they could be easily grabbed – never leave them in your vehicle
– When at home keep your vehicle keys out of sight, in a safe place. Don’t leave them on a table where they can be easily grabbed
– Do not hide spare keys inside or on your vehicle – thieves know where to look for them
– Remove valuables such as GPS devices, mobile phones, laptops, fishing rods and cameras from parked vehicles.
